How to Replace Your Treadmill Belt

Follow this step-by-step guide from FitnessParts.com to safely replace your treadmill walking belt and restore smooth performance.

âš  Important: Be safe and unplug your treadmill before beginning any repair.

Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Start by folding your treadmill up or laying it on its side if it cannot be folded.
  2. Remove the left and right rear feet.
  3. Using a rubber hammer, gently tap and remove both rear end caps.
  4. Remove the belt guides and side rails.
  5. Fold the display console carefully toward the back of the unit.
  6. Unscrew and remove the motor hood.
  7. Mark the position of the front roller shaft on the right roller bracket using a permanent marker. This helps preserve the original alignment.
  8. Remove the front roller adjustment bolt.
  9. Unscrew and remove the walking board (deck).
  10. Carefully remove the rear roller.
  11. Slide the old walking belt out from the deck.
  12. Install the new walking belt by gently sliding it into place.
  13. Reinstall the rear roller into its original position.
  14. Place the rear end caps back into position.
  15. Replace and tighten the walking deck screws.
  16. Insert the front roller adjustment bolt back into place.
  17. Tighten the front roller adjustment bolt until it matches the alignment mark you made earlier.
  18. Reinstall the belt guides and side rails.
  19. Carefully fold the unit back up and secure the rear end caps.
  20. Reinstall the left and right rear feet.
  21. Lower the treadmill back into its normal operating position.

Belt Alignment & Tensioning

Once installed, the belt must be centered and properly tensioned for safe and smooth operation.

  1. Turn on the treadmill and set the speed to 3.5 MPH.
  2. Center the walking belt by adjusting the rear roller bolts.
  3. Carefully test the tension by applying pressure with your foot to stop the walking belt.
  4. If the belt slips, tighten the rear roller adjustment bolts slightly until the slipping stops.
Safety Tip: Always stand on the side rails and hold onto the treadmill frame while performing this test.

Final Step

Once the belt is properly aligned and tensioned, reinstall and secure the motor hood.

Your treadmill belt replacement is now complete and ready for use.
